Essex approves 2026 budget

The average Essex resident will pay around $95 more on their annual taxes in 2026.

Essex councillors approved a $79.7 million budget during deliberations this week. That represents an average increase of 2.66 per cent in the tax rate for all residents.

"This budget reflects our commitment to responsible financial management while continuing to invest in the priorities that matter most to our residents. It builds on our progress over the past year by maintaining core services, strengthening community assets, and planning for long-term sustainability,” said Mayor Sherry Bondy.

The budget increase comes from contractual obligations like the Ontario Provincial Police contract and an increase to the town's asset management program.

The $21.4 million capital budget includes the replacement of fire station 3 and improvements to the Maidstone Avenue and Talbot Street intersection.

“This year’s budget reinforces our commitment to sound financial management, efficient service delivery, and strategic investment. Guided by the 2023-2027 Strategic Action Plan, it balances the needs of today while preparing for sustainable growth in the years ahead. I’m grateful for the collaboration across all departments and the continued support of Council and community partners,” said Kate Giurissivich, CAO for the Town of Essex.
