Like the OPP, Windsor police were busy over the weekend arresting people for alleged impaired driving.
Officers arrested five drivers following alleged impaired-driving incidents, including one that sent one person to hospital.
The first was soon before 5 p.m. on Friday, when a 48-year-old woman was arrested at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel. CBSA agents noticed during a vehicle search that the woman might be impaired and contacted police. She eventually failed a breath test.
The second concerned a serious crash shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Sunday on Provincial Road and Concession Road 6. Police say a driver was speeding when they crossed the centre line and struck an oncoming vehicle. The other driver suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver fled the scene before police arrived and hit two light poles at the intersection of Ducharme Street and Rockport Street. Several cans of beer were found in the vehicle.
The 36-year-old driver was charged with impaired driving, and dangerous driving causing bodily harm, and refusal to provide a breath sample.
The third incident took place around 10 p.m. on Sunday. A 36-year-old woman was stopped after accidentally entering the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel. She was transported to police headquarters, where she refused a breath sample.
Next, officers were called to the Ambassador Bridge shortly after midnight Monday morning. The driver was allegedly seen driving on the bridge in the wrong lane and striking a running board. The 31-year-old man blew double the legal limit on a breathalyzer.
Finally, a 26-year-old man was stopped at around 2 a.m. Monday on Dandurand Avenue, after almost hitting parked cars. He also blew more than double the legal limit.
The charges have not been proven in court.
