Man charged following standoff near downtown Windsor

For the second time within 24 hours on Wednesday, Windsor police helped bring an end to a standoff at a house.

It happened late Wednesday afternoon on Wyandotte Street West and Jannette Avenue. Someone who had fled the house told police they were threatened and assaulted.

The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police added that the suspect also threatened to set the victim's pet cats on fire.

A standoff developed after police received information that the suspect may have been in possession of a loaded, homemade firearm that could fire shotgun shells.

Police were able to talk the man out of the house after several hours and take him peacefully into custody.

The 34-year-old man is charged with assault, uttering threats to hurt animals, and uttering threats to damage property.

The charges have not been proven in court.
