Employees at a local long-term care facility are frustrated after months of ongoing with issues with a new payroll system that has resulted in missing pay.
CUPE Local 1370 represents around 140 employees at the Extendicare-run Iler Lodge in Essex.
The union has filed three grievances in relation to unpaid top-ups for Personal Support Workkers (PSW) and nursing staff and issues with vacation and time-off allotments since the home introduced the system in May.
Michelle Chartier has worked as a nursing aid at the home for the last 21 years. For the last two pay periods she's been missing part of her pay.
"We're all expected to come to work. We all work an honest day. We just want to paid on time, when we're supposed to be, what we're supposed to be. It shouldn't be a fight," said Chartier.
The union stated that it is preparing to escalate the situation if it is not resolved soon.
“These are members who are already marginalized, already working multiple jobs to cover their bills,” said Suanne Hawkins, National Representative for local 1370. “Something must be done.”
