Tecumseh proposed budget calls for a 2.85 per cent increase

Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara has tabled the town's 2026 budget with a proposed 2.85 per cent increase for property owners.

Now that the budget is tabled, online engagement with the public is open until February 12, when councillors can suggest amendments to the spending document. If there are none, the budget will be considered approved at that time.

If amendments are proposed, the budget could be approved as late as March 9.

McNamara's budget, under the strong mayor powers, calls for a $872,338 increase in the levy, equalling an additional $69 in 2026 over 2025. The total levy is $31.9-million.

Combined with the rates for the county and education, the consolidated increase is 2.36 per cent for next year on a home valued at $275,000.

The budget also proposes a three per cent increase in water rates and a five per cent increase in wastewater rates.

A total of $58-million is set aside in the capital budget, which includes upcoming work at the Scully and St. Mark's Storm Pump Station, the P.J. Cecile Storm Pump Station, the Lesperance Trail between Riverside Drive and First Street, and a new water feature, washrooms, and trail at Southfield Park.
