The partnership between Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) nurses and Windsor police continued to grow last year.
The Nurse Police Team has completed its third year, since it was first introduced in January 2023 as a pilot project. It pairs police officers with specially trained nurses from WRH to provide on-the-spot care, which helps take pressure off of hospital emergency departments.
Windsor police issued its 2025 report on social media on Monday, which included the following.
2,968 calls were taken for service, supporting those in crisis and needing immediate medical attention.
604 people were diverted from the emergency department, helping free up officers and hospital staff for urgent emergencies, and keeping wait times under control.
202 substance-related wounds were treated on-site, providing care where needed most and preventing serious complications.
397 referrals were made to community support and resources, ensuring people get the specialized assistance they need.
When the NPT began three years ago, it was primarily limited to weekends. It now operates seven days a week.
The NPT's annual report was released days after the Crisis Response Team (CRT), an initiative between police and social workers from Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare (HDGH) that helps de-escalate trouble and provide support to those who are vulnerable.
