United Way mentorship program making a difference in the lives of high schools students

A United Way program that helps students navigate high school and realize their academic potential appears to be making a significant difference in the lives of its enrollees.

On Track to Success provides academic, mental health, social, and financial support, along with mentoring and career-building opportunities. Currently, it has 200 students enrolled.

The United Way/Centraide of Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent released its year-end report on the program and its successes in the past year. It surveyed caregivers last spring.

The Caregiver Feedback Survey found that 90 per cent of respondents believe their children benefited from the program, and the same percentage says they would recommend it to others.

The survey also found that 92 per cent of students who started the program stayed with it.

Ninety-eight per cent of students enrolled graduated high school on time, and 87 per cent of 2025 graduates plan to enroll in post-secondary school. Nine out of ten felt the program helped them prepare for university or college.

The program is focused on high school students in West Windsor, Downtown Windsor, and Leamington.
