Hit-and-run among 80 crashes in Windsor during winter weather

Windsor police responded to dozens of collisions during this week's winter storm, including one involving a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle that took off.

Between Wednesday evening and Thursday afternoon, officers responded to 80 crashes across the city, as snow and falling temperatures caused hazardous driving conditions.

Among them was a pedestrian struck by a car travelling southbound on Howard Avenue at Edinborough Street, at around 8 p.m. on Wednesday. The driver did not stop or provide help. The pedestrian was treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

"The suspect vehicle is described as a black Toyota sedan," read a social media post from Windsor police. "Investigators are asking residents and businesses in the immediate area to review security or dash camera footage for evidence that may assist in identifying the vehicle or driver involved."

Anyone who witnessed the crash and has not spoken with police, or has footage to share, should call Windsor police's Traffic Enforcement Unit at (519) 945-9645, extension 7032. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).
