Windsor Police has introduced a new unit dedicated to protecting children from abuse and supporting survivors of sexual violence.
Six specially trained officers will conduct trauma-informed investigations to ensure that sensitive cases receive the care and attention they need.
The unit, CASA, was launched more than two weeks ago.
The officers received enhanced training in forensic interviewing, major case management, and other specialized areas.
"The CASA Unit is more than an investigative team," said a release. "It is a collaborative model designed to strengthen investigations, minimize re-traumatization, and ensure survivors and their families are treated with dignity, respect, and compassion at every stage."
Police say the unit will work closely with Crown prosecutors, victim services, and community partners.
"By bringing child abuse and sexual assault investigation cases together under one specialized team, the CASA Unit provides a consistent, survivor-centred experience for survivors and their families from the first report through to eventual court proceedings," continued the release.
Last year, Windsor Police investigated 245 child abuse-related incidents and 713 sexual assault related incidents.
