Man impersonating a police officer offers woman a ride home

Windsor police have issued a warning after a report of a man allegedly impersonating a police officer.

According to police, a woman reported she was walking southbound on Dougall Avenue when a man in a pickup truck pulled over and offered her a ride home. The woman declined but the man continued to follow her, identified himself as a police officer, and displayed what appeared to be a silver police badge.

The man continued to follow the woman onto Howard Avenue, impeding traffic. Eventually the man drove away.

The suspect is described as a White man, around 30-years-old, with a tanned complexion, short brown hair, and a brown beard. He was driving a four-door pickup truck and had a small lapdog on the front passenger seat.

Police say if you suspect someone of impersonating a police officer you should call 911 immediately. They also advise you not to engage and move to a safe, populated, and well-lit area.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 519-255-6700, ext. 4830.
