Windsor residents can now gather and grab a drink for early morning Olympic events.
"With Olympic events airing early due to the time difference, we're working to help support the hospitality sector while giving residents the opportunity to show their pride and support Team Canada," said Mayor Drew Dilkens.
Recently, Windsor City Council unanimously approved designating the 2026 Winter Olympic Games as an event of municipal significance. After the vote, the City sent a request to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) for a temporary extension of liquor sale and service hours.
That request has been approved, allowing eligible establishments to begin selling and serving alcohol at 6 a.m., although the standard last call will remain unchanged at 2 p.m. The temporary extension does not include outdoor spaces and will be in place until February 22.
"This is about supporting our local businesses and ensuring Windsor is ready to rally behind Team Canada," explained Ward 3 Councillor Renaldo Agostino. "Our restaurants and bars are vital to the vibrancy of our downtown and neighbourhoods across the city, and this is another way we're doing everything we can to help Strengthen the Core."
The City is reminding everyone to celebrate safely and responsibly.
