A $600,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation will help more seniors fight isolation and access care in the community.
The grant was awarded to Windsor-Essex Compassion Care Community to expand its programming to seven senior locations of the Windsor Essex Community Housing Corporation.
The program aims to make connections, create informal networks of care and improve seniors' wellbeing.
"This is a really important stage in the evolution of this model where we can demonstrate that it's the partnerships and the people coming together can really make a difference in the lives of people who are very vulnerable," said Project Manager Deborah Sattler.
Drop-in sessions have been organized at seven community housing locations throughout Windsor and Essex County. They offer group recreation and social programming as well as one-on-one supports.
"It's meeting our senior residents where they're at, literally where they're at in the places that they live in, in the buildings that they occupy but also mentally where they are at in the chapter of their lives," said Fabio Costante, CEO of the Windsor-Essex Community Housing Corporation.
The funding will support the program over the next three years.
