The City of Windsor has successfully diverted tons of would-be waste from area landfills.
A two-week effort to collect extra or older red and blue recycling bins from residents is now complete, and the City said it was done ahead of schedule.
During the fortnight, crews collected 10,000 red and blue bins, plus 450 rollout carts. The City estimated that the haul accounted for 22.5 tonnes that would have otherwise ended up in the garbage.
The material collected will be used to create alternate plastic products or be reused within the City's commercial recycling program.
"The City of Windsor was pleased to partner with Circular Materials on this Windsor-made solution to help residents give back their previously used bins and carts," said Mayor Drew Dilkens. "Thanks to our partners at Circular Materials, City staff, and participating residents for working together to make this program a success. Together, these efforts represent meaningful progress toward Windsor’s ongoing environmental and sustainability goals."
If you pre-registered for the pickup of your old bins and they were missed, register your address with 311 and place the bin out for next-day collection. The information will be passed along to Environmental Services. Please leave your bin curbside until it is collected.
