Windsor police have urged people to be mindful of how they leave their vehicles after officers responded to a recent increase in auto thefts.
Police have released security camera videos showing vehicles being stolen, often with the doors open or the keys still in the ignition.
"Staying alert and taking preventative measures can help reduce the risk and keep your vehicle safe," read a release from Windsor police.
Police say that the driver's first and best line of defence is to lock their vehicle when parking it, and take the keys with them, even if leaving it for a minute.
Other tips include knowing your license plate number and checking your plate to ensure it hasn't been switched or tampered with, installing a GPS device, or investing in an alarm.
If you see any suspicious activity or if you are a victim of auto theft, call 911.
