High wind gusts in the forecast have led to a statement being issued by the Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA).
ERCA has issued a shoreline conditions statement for the Lake Erie shoreline and Pelee Island for Friday.
"Forecasts predict that winds will begin to shift to out of the south overnight and increase in speeds into the morning," said ERCA Water Resources Engineer Tian Martin. "Winds are forecasted to reach sustained speeds between 45 and 55 kilometres per hour, with gusts reaching up to 70 kilometres per hour."
While lake levels have been low, ERCA said there is still the potential for shoreline erosion and debris being blown around.
"There remains some risk of flooding and accelerated nearshore erosion along the Lake Erie shoreline including south Pelee Island as a result of increased wave activity," said Martin.
The statement is active through noon on Saturday, though changing conditions may result in an update.
