Windsor police have once again urged residents to be wary of scams targeting the elderly.
In a social media post, police reported receiving multiple complaints on Tuesday about the so-called grandparent scam.
"In each case, victims received a phone call from someone claiming that their grandchild or relative had been arrested or was in urgent distress," read the post. "The caller demanded money be sent urgently for bail, legal fees, or other expenses."
Police have tips for residents to avoid becoming a victim.
Don't just take the call at face value. Hang up and contact your relative to verify.
Be aware of any urgent or aggressive requests for money to be used for legal fees or bail.
Never give money or gift cards to anyone who just shows up at your home.
Ask personal questions only your loved one would know.
Talk to the seniors in your life about this scam.
If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately and call Windsor police's Financial Crimes Unit at (519) 255-6700, extension 4330.
