Some of the best divers from Canada and other countries will make a stop in Windsor this weekend.
The 2026 Canada Cup of Diving will run from Thursday to Sunday at the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre.
The Canadian team will have 19 divers out of about 90 slated to participate. Athletes from the U.S., Australia, the U.K., and China will also be in Windsor.
Jeff Feeney, the Senior Director of Business Development for Diving Plongeon Canada, said the Canada Cup of Diving will feature many of the world's best.
"This is a World Aquatics event where the respective national teams are here, and they've been selected by their own federations to attend," said Feeney. "The difference between the Canada Cup of Diving and the World Cup is that there's a bit of a scoring standard to hit to compete at the World Cup."
Platform divers Nathan Zsombor-Murray and Rylan Wiens, who won the bronze medal in the ten-metre synchronized platform event at the 2024 Paris Olympics, will be on the squad, along with women's springboard diver Margo Erlam.
Feeney said Windsor continues to be a strong partner.
"We have a walkable set of hotels," said Feeney. "We have service providers with whom we've built a rapport over the years, where it's a couple of quick phone calls. We tweak what we want to change. The staff at the pool is fantastic, and the local support between municipal, provincial, and federal programs is there."
With major diving events choosing Windsor, Mayor Drew Dilkens brushed off suggestions that the aquatic centre is a drain on city resources.
"When you're able to host events where you have Olympians who are in your city, using your facilities, it brings it to a whole different level," said Dilkens. "So residents are always very excited. If you looked at last year's ticket sales, it was sold out before the first day even began."
Tickets for the Thursday and Friday events are free, but still required for entry. Prices for Saturday and Sunday begin at $18, with children aged 10 and under free. Tickets are available online on a first-come, first-served basis.
