The Windsor Essex Community Health Centre in downtown Windsor is receiving a $2,151,000 investment to connect residents who don't have a doctor with one, or at least a primary care team.
Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie announced the funding on Friday.
It's a collaborative partnership also involving the Canadian Mental Health Association Windsor-Essex County Branch and the Essex County Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic.
The initiative focuses on priority neighbourhoods with high poverty rates. Many in those neighbourhoods face housing instability, food insecurity, and barriers to primary care.
"This $2.1-million investment in the Windsor Essex Community Health Centre will connect more than 6,000 people in Windsor-Essex to a family doctor or primary care," said Dowie, explaining the province's Primary Care Action Plan.
"This investment allows weCHC and partners to expand our teams, create meaningful healthcare jobs, and most importantly, ensure more individuals and families in our community are connected to accessible, community-centred primary care and the full range of services they need to thrive," added weCHC CEO Nancy Brockenshire.
The funding will help create a coordinated access and attachment network to match high-need residents to care through a mobile, flexible, community-based model.
The network will have two tracks, engaging with unattached residents through outreach and drawing from the existing Health Care Connect waitlist.
