Autism Heros given a hero's send off from Windsor

Windsor Police held a ceremonial kickoff for a York Regional Police Officer who is running and cycling from Windsor to Ottawa to raise support for neurodiverse children and their families.

Since 2020, Adam McEachern has completed three 24-hour events and one 12-hour endurance event, raising $100,000 for Kerry's Place Autism Services, Autism Ontario, and Special Olympics Ontario.

The proceeds from his most recent trek will go to Kerry's Place Autism Services, which supports about 8,000 people who are neurodiverse in Ontario.

McEachern is the father of two neurodiverse children, Caleb and Jensen.

Many families face wait times of two to three years for initial assessments before they can access benefits and therapies for their children. Others pay high out-of-pocket costs for private assessments. McEachern's journey is intended to highlight those struggles.

McEachern plans to run 20 to 25 kilometres and cycle 35 to 55 kilometres each day.

The trip from Windsor to Ottawa is about 989 kilometres.
