Palou prevails again at Detroit Grand Prix

A Spaniard already in overdrive this racing season has emerged victorious once again in Detroit.

Álex Palou picked up the checkered flag on Sunday afternoon at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear. It was his second win in Detroit, with the first being in 2023.

Both of Palou's Detroit wins have been on the revived downtown circuit, which includes a main straightaway on Jefferson Avenue, with repeated turns around the Renaissance Center.

Sunday's win was also the 28-year-old's fourth of the 2026 IndyCar season, with previous victories at St. Petersburg, Barber, and Long Beach, all U.S. venues.

It was also one week removed from a seventh-place finish at the Indianapolis 500, where he had won the coveted pole position.

American Kyle Kirkwood, who won the Grand Prix last year, challenged Palou for much of the race and finished second. Graham Rahal, son of racing legend Bobby Rahal, was third.

Indianapolis 500 winner Felix Rosenqvist of Sweden finished in sixth place.

Attendance figures for the three-day event in downtown Detroit have not yet been released. This was the fourth year the Grand Prix had been run downtown after many years on Belle Isle.
