University of Windsor celebrates 4,100 graduates

The University of Windsor marked the conclusion of a journey made by thousands of students who are now alumni.

The school celebrated Spring Convocation between Tuesday and Friday, with nine sessions held at the Toldo Lancer Centre.

"Convocation is the moment we look forward to all year," said U of W Acting University Registrar Lorraine Chandler. "It’s when the work of our students, faculty, and staff becomes most visible, and most meaningful."

Degrees were awarded to those who completed programs in arts, science, law, engineering, business, education, nursing and human kinetics.

There were two honorary degrees awarded. One was to longtime Toronto Maple Leafs radio play-by-play voice Joe Bowen, a member of the U of W Class of 1973.

The other honorary degree went to the Honourable Michael H. Tulloch, Chief Justice of Ontario.

Among students receiving special honours, Brett Mitchell Blondin received the Governor General’s Silver Medal, for the graduating honours student deemed most outstanding in their field. He also earned the Board of Governors’ Medal for Law.

Zeina Abou Haidar received the President’s Medal, for the graduating undergraduate student who has made an outstanding contribution to campus life while maintaining a superior academic record. Abou Haidar also earned the Board of Governors’ Medal for Communication, Media and Film.
