Personal crime in Windsor takes double-digit drop in May

Windsor police say progress has been made in reducing crimes against people in May.

Crime statistics for May in Windsor and Amherstburg are available online.

Police reported a 19.1 per cent decline in personal crime complaints compared to May 2025. For 2026 to date, that number is down by 6.6 per cent.

Offences that fall under this category include homicide, sexual assault, abduction, assault, robbery, and criminal harassment.

Officers in Windsor and Amherstburg took 259 personal crime reports in May, and so far in 2026, there are 1,172.

There was mixed information regarding crimes against property. Windsor police say reports went up by 8.2 per cent year-to-year in May. However, these complaints are down by 4.8 per cent for 2026 thus far.

Property crime includes break-and-enter, arson, fraud, theft, and mischief.

There were 858 property crime reports in May and 3,773 for 2026 so far.

The story of other Criminal Code violations is much different, as those complaints are still on the rise. These include offences involving non-violent weapons, betting and gaming, administration of justice violations, and child sexual abuse material.

In May, such reports went up by 19.1 per cent compared to May 2025. Year to date, there is a 20.3 per cent increase.

There wasn't much change in the ward-by-ward statistics for the City of Windsor only. Ward 1 had the lowest amount of personal and property crime complaints. Ward 3, which includes downtown, was the highest in both.
