The University of Windsor's reputation has continued to garner the attention of academics worldwide.
The 2026 edition of the QS Top Universities World Rankings is out, and the school has achieved its highest-ever placement.
Out of 1,504 universities ranked worldwide, U of W placed 537th overall, up nine notches from the 2025 survey.
This is the third year in a row that Windsor has ranked in the top 550 in the world. It is also one of only eight Canadian schools to improve its position.
U of W President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. J.J. McMurtry said he wasn't surprised.
"These rankings reflect years of deliberate investment in our researchers and our academic mission," said McMurtry. "Reaching our highest-ever global ranking, and doing it in the company of institutions many times our size, speaks to the strength of this university and the impact of the research being done here."
The school also ranked 265th in the world for Citations per Faculty, a measure of how often U of W faculty members' research is cited in papers by other scholars. Windsor has an average of 161 citations per faculty member, almost triple the global average of 59.9.
QS Top Universities singled out the school's extensive research in its ranking, including the Freshwater Restoration Ecology Centre, the Real-Time Aquatic Ecosystem Observation Network for monitoring the health of the Great Lakes, the collaborative WE-SPARK Institute, and the Windsor Law Centre for Cities.
Four Canadian universities ranked in the QS Top 100. They are McGill University in Montréal at 30th, the University of Toronto at 32nd, the University of British Columbia at 45th, and the University of Alberta at 96th.
The QS survey is separate from the prestigious ranking by U.S. News and World Report.
