Creative Community Experience performing at Fringe Windsor

Three short plays by the Creative Community Experience will be performed at Fringe Windsor, thanks in part to a donation from Caesars Windsor Cares.

The plays are created and performed by members of Community Living Windsor along with Director Alice Nelson, a former University of Windsor theatre arts professor.

"The way we work it is we come up first with locations and we vote on locations, so we have the old West...stranded island and distant planet," said Nelson. "Then we get up on our feet and improvise in those different locations and we come up with different things that could possibly happen."

Nelson said she takes those ideas and creates a script for the actors to work on.

"It's really designed for these actors because they all have different skills and abilities," said Nelson.

The $5,000 grant from Caesars Windsor Cares ensures each of the performers is paid for their part in the production.

"When we saw this proposal, it's such a unique opportunity to be a part of Community Living Windsor with this wonderful project," said Susanne Tomkins, Manager of PR & Communications at Caesars Windsor. "I give them kudos to come up with an idea to provide an opportunity for these individuals being paid while their practicing and doing their art."

All of their work will culminate in six performances in July at the University of Windsor's Black Box Theatre and the Windsor Fringe Festival.

"I have such high doubts about me cause I'm so nervous, and I find it hard to memorize lines but I'm also excited about this cause this is the first real play that I'm going to be a part of," said Shawna Merasty, an actor in the performance.
