A Windsor-Essex agency dedicated to finding job opportunities for women is teaming up with Unifor for a hands-on workshop next month.
Women’s Enterprise Skills Training of Windsor Inc. (WEST), in partnership with Unifor Canada and Unifor Local 444, will host the Skilled Trades Exploration Workshops for Women from July 13 to July 17, at the Unifor Local 444/200 offices on Turner Road in Windsor.
The week of workshops will be designed to offer women a chance to learn about the skilled trades through hands-on activities, networking with those who hire into the industry, and to learn directly from industry professionals.
"As demand for skilled trades professionals continues to grow, WEST remains committed to helping women explore and pursue rewarding careers in these high-demand fields," read a release from WEST. "This year marks a significant milestone for the organization, which has supported 436 women in gaining technical skills, industry knowledge, and confidence through its skilled trades training initiatives."
WEST offers four pre-apprenticeship programs for women, in electrical, air conditioning, refrigeration and sheet metal, construction and craft trades, and the CNC Industrial Mechanic Millwright Program.
Training opportunities in the latter program will be offered in partnership with St. Clair College, starting this August.
Attendance in the five-day workshop is free, but pre-registration is required. Each day's session runs from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
