Windsor police dealt with a pair of crashes over the weekend that they believe may have been alcohol-related.
The first incident took place Saturday night in Amherstburg. Officers from that detachment were called at around 8 p.m. to Alma Street and the Sixth Concession Road North for a single-vehicle collision. The car hit a light pole, causing serious damage to the pole and the vehicle.
During a conversation with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment. After being checked out in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and failing a breath test, he was arrested.
A 31-year-old man is charged with impaired driving and driving with excessive blood-alcohol concentration.
The second collision took place on Patrice Drive off Wyandotte Street East in Windsor at around 11 a.m. Sunday.
Police learned that one driver struck another vehicle and then tried to flee the scene. The driver pulled into a nearby driveway and tried to run off.
The suspect was soon seen leaving an address on Wyandotte Street East near Victor, a house he was barred from going to as part of a bail condition. When police caught up with him in a nearby parking lot, they noticed signs of impairment.
A 40-year-old man is charged with four counts of driving while suspended, two counts of breach of probation, and one count each of impaired driving, failure to remain at the scene of a crash, and driving without an approved ignition lock.
The charges have not been proven in court.
