We're well into the middle of summer, and more candidates have joined the race for the October municipal elections.
Candidates for Windsor mayor, City Council, and school board trustee have continued to file their paperwork.
As of the end of the business day on Friday, three incumbent City Council members have expressed interest in another four-year term.
Windsor Mayor
For mayor, only one person has entered the race, business owner Kat Pasquach. Three-term incumbent Drew Dilkens has not announced if he will seek a record fourth four-year term.
Windsor City Council
The race for Ward 1 Councillor is wide open with no candidates yet. The current seat holder is Fred Francis.
In Ward 2, the only contestant so far is Nick Markham. Frazier Fathers, who won the seat in an October 2025 by-election after Fabio Costante resigned, has not decided on a full term in his own right.
For Ward 3, Rabia Kirma has filed to challenge first-term incumbent Renaldo Agostino, who has not made a decision yet. Kirma ran in 2022 as a candidate for trustee with the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board.
Mark McKenzie has not announced if he'll run again in Ward 4. So far, the only candidate in that ward is Rasha Zaid.
In Ward 5, there are currently three candidates. They are Ken Acton, who ran unsuccessfully in 2022; Natasha Elizabeth Feghali, and Shane Potvin. Ed Sleiman is the incumbent.
Four candidates are running in Ward 6 so far, which has been represented by Jo-Anne Gignac. They include Nick Jirgens, Hiral Munim, Jeremy Renaud, who is also trying again after a 2022 defeat; and Owen Smith.
In Ward 7, incumbent Angelo Marignani has filed for re-election. So far, his only challenger is Victoria Soulade.
Ward 8 incumbent Gary Kaschak is also seeking another term. So far, he's running unopposed.
The race in Ward 9 is open. The incumbent is Kieran McKenzie, who has not announced his plans.
Finally, in Ward 10, incumbent Jim Morrison has asked voters for another term. He is so far challenged by Adam Ibrahim.
Greater Essex County District School Board Trustee
In the City of Windsor, the English public school board seats six trustees. Here's who is running so far.
In Wards 1, 2, and 9, Malini Ondrovcik is the sole candidate so far. Currently sitting in the two available seats are Kim McKinley and Linda Qin.
In Wards 3, 4, and 10, there are two candidates filed, Malak Bakhash and Beth St. Denis. The incumbents are Malek Makawi and Christie Nelson.
And in Wards 5, 6, 7, and 8, incumbent Gale Simko Hatfield is running for reelection to one of the two open seats. Challengers thus far are Selena Hamilton and May Morris.
Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board Trustee
Windsor is represented by five people on the English Catholic school board.
Ward 1 and 10 incumbent Fulvio Valentinis is up for reelection and is currently unopposed.
Joe Iacono is also an unopposed incumbent so far for Wards 2 and 9.
In Wards 3 and 4, Bernie Mastromattei has filed for another term. His only challenger is Juliet Bushi.
For Wards 5 and 8, incumbent Jason Lazarus is running again and is the only one for that seat thus far.
The same goes for Ward 6 and 7 incumbent Kim Bouchard.
Conseil Scolaire Catholique Providence Trustee
On the French Catholic school board, Windsor is represented by three trustees. So far, only the incumbents have filed for re-election.
Jacques Kenny is running in Windsor Ward 1, the Town of LaSalle, and Tecumseh Wards 4 and 5. His paperwork was filed in LaSalle.
Christine Brooks is running in Windsor Wards 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10.
Janine Brydges is running in Windsor Wards 6, 7, 8, and 9.
Conseil Scolaire Viamonde Trustee
The incumbent for the French public school board is Emmanuelle Richez, who is currently running unopposed in Windsor. The district covers all of Windsor-Essex and Pelee Island.
Nominations opened on May 1. If you're interested in running, you must file your paperwork with the Windsor City Clerk's office no later than 2 p.m. on Friday, August 21.
The election is on Monday, October 26.
