Therapy carts donated to Windsor Regional Hospital

A recent donation to Windsor Regional Hospital will help give patients comfort and more peace during their visits.

Nolan’s SMILE Foundation donated $28,000 to purchase multiple Snoezelen Carts for each hospital campus. The carts bring multi-sensory therapy to patient rooms with water bubble tubes, a fiber-optic light spray, and other auditory, visual, and tactile tools.

"It provides sensory input for our patients. It's a peaceful distraction while patients are going through one of the most traumatic and chaotic times of their life," said Luke Dipaolo, Director of Mental Health and Allied Health at Windsor Regional Hospital.

Nolan’s SMILE Foundation raised funds specifically for this purpose in honour of Nolan Trepanier, who battled Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia during his short life.

Nolan's father John Trepanier said the entire family found the Snoezelen therapy room at the Children’s Hospital in London very helpful.

"It was a space that doctors weren't allowed to go into, so any time he was there he wasn't being picked or prodded. He was allowed to just escape from the hospital," said John.

Each year, Nolan’s SMILE Foundation holds fundraisers to improve the quality of life for children and families whose lives are shattered by life altering diseases.
