Tecumseh to shift $5.2M to new stormwater management ponds

The Town of Tecumseh is using money saved on a project toward continued stormwater management.

The $5.2-million left over from the Tecumseh Hamlet and Manning Road Secondary Plan Area project will be used to create two stormwater management ponds.

Tecumseh was originally awarded $15.1-million by the provincial government for the project, which is reducing the risk of flooding in the area and allow for the building of up to 6,000 new homes.

"Through our government’s $4-billion Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, we are protecting Ontario by investing in local infrastructure that drives economic growth, creates jobs, and strengthens communities," said Ontario Acting Infrastructure Minister Todd McCarthy. "By working with the Town of Tecumseh, we are pleased to support the town’s reallocation of cost savings to fund new infrastructure projects that will support new housing and build a more resilient community."

The Tecumseh Hamlet project was recently completed.

The funding came from Queens Park's Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program's Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund.
