The John McGiveny Children's Centre in Windsor has another $108,100 for its programs and services from this year's Harrow Fair Memorial Pie Auction.
The decades-old tradition at the Harrow Fair was postponed last Thursday after a line of damaging storms hit the region, causing damage across Essex County, including at the Harrow Fair grounds.
The auction went ahead on Friday instead.
"The amount of work that goes into making the pie auction happen every year is remarkable, and this year, the Harrow Fair team and volunteers faced the added challenge of having to reorganize the event following severe weather," said JMCC CEO Jennifer Jovanovski.
The tradition started three decades ago when the Stannard family launched the first auction in memory of their son, Todd, who was born with spina bifida. He received support through the predecessor of the John McGivney Children's Centre, the Red Cross. The family continues to lead the event.
The centre provides children with severe physical and intellectual disabilities with leading-edge pediatric rehabilitation services.
The first auction raised $350, but in the years since, it's raised $709,322.
"Seeing this community come together year after year is truly special," added Jovanovski. "To raise $108,100 in one evening is extraordinary."
