The City of Windsor has opened new amenities at Optimist Memorial Park, including a new forest-themed playground.
The city spent $475,000 on new improvements in the north Walkerville park. Other improvements include rubber-safety surfacing at the playground, new benches, and drainage improvements.
The project is part of the city's larger playground replacement program in neighbourhoods across Windsor. A total of 35 neighbourhood playgrounds will be replaced, and a new "super playground" is planned at Lanspeary Park on Ottawa Street at a cost of $16.3-million.
That program will modernize playgrounds by improving safety, accessibility, and providing high-quality recreational amenities that support children and families in Windsor.
