Despite repeated campaigns warning drivers of the danger of impaired driving, the Ontario Provincial Police arrested seven drivers between last Friday and Monday.
One driver was involved in a crash on Talbot Road East near Mersea Road 21 in Leamington just before 7 a.m. on Sunday.
A 43-year-old Chatham man is now charged with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired, dangerous driving, and using a phone or other handheld device while driving.
The OPP started the weekend with the arrest of a 28-year-old Leamington woman after a traffic stop on Erie Street South in Leamington late Friday night.
Another traffic stop in Leamington, just after 2 a.m. on Saturday, netted another suspect, a 45-year-old Leamington man who also faces impaired driving charges. The OPP pulled his vehicle over on Robson Road.
Including the collision, there were four arrests on Sunday.
A 49-year-old Kingsville man faces one count of impaired driving after the OPP carried out a traffic stop on Oak Street East in Leamington.
A complaint about excessive speed led the OPP to pull over a vehicle on 11th Concession Road near County Road 46 in Tecumseh. A 55-year-old Windsor man was arrested and charged with impaired driving.
Another complaint sent police to Hwy.3 near County Road 23 in Essex, where they pulled over a vehicle and arrested the 25-year-old Windsor driver. He also faces impaired driving charges.
Meanwhile, a 29-year-old Windsor man is charged with impaired driving, having liquor readily available to the driver, and failing to surrender their license. The OPP pulled him over early Monday morning on Foundry Street in Leamington.
Each driver was handed a 90-day driving suspension and had their vehicle impounded for a week.
