The City of Windsor is waiting on approvals from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans to restore the flow of water on Peche Island.
The city planned to complete some dredging work this summer after the project was approved during budget deliberations.
"Our direction was to do some dredging work both on the interior and clear out the debris that's under the bridge leading into the interior of the island. That included some protection to stop debris from getting back into that particular area," said Michael Chantler, Commissioner of Community Services.
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans did not approve the city's original plan for the project.
"When we were finally assigned a DFO representative to review, it was too ambitious for their liking and they suggested we scale back a little bit," said Chantler. "We are continuing to work on detailed design with our consultant on a scaled-back piece. That has been submitted to the DFO, and we await their acknowledgement of that application."
The dredging was expected to cost around $600,000.
