A Windsor man is facing charges for alleged impaired driving overnight.
Windsor police say officers were sent to the intersection of Lauzon Parkway and Hawthorne Drive at around 1 a.m. on Wednesday for a wellness check.
When officers arrived, they learned that the vehicle had been stopped at the intersection for about ten minutes with the engine running. The driver was asleep behind the wheel.
When knocking on the window failed to rouse the driver, police entered the vehicle, took it out of gear, and woke him up. The driver refused to step out and tried to put the vehicle back in drive, but police forcibly removed him.
It was determined that the driver was allegedly impaired, with drug paraphernalia and residue found in the man's backpack. He was arrested at police headquarters after failing a drug evaluation.
The 21-year-old man is charged with impaired driving by drug, driving with an unauthorized licence plate, driving without insurance, and driving a vehicle in contravention of conditions.
The charges have not been proven in court.
