Windsor police note a rise in impaired driving cases

The Windsor Police Service is reporting a concerning increase in the number of impaired driving charges in 2026.

So far in 2026, there have been 226 instances of alleged impaired driving in the city.

"I don't know what has changed, in the sense of, the community seemed for a long time to really understand the messaging and the importance of impaired driving," said Crowley. "When it comes to the holiday season coming up, it's a concerning trend."

He also noted that of the 226 instances, 64 involved drivers stopped at one of three border crossings in the city.

"The CBSA is doing a great job in what they are allowing into this country when it comes to a lot of things, but particularly they're doing a great job of impaired driving notification and recognition," said Crowley.

Crowley noted the service has already increased enforcement.

"We have already increased our RIDE programs, our awareness and that will certainly just increase as the holidays get closer," said Crowley.
