Contract negotiations between Stellantis and Unifor are still at an impasse.
The union provided an update to its members Thursday evening, stating the company has been unwilling to move from its position on the Brampton sale and closure.
Earlier this month, Stellantis announced it had a memorandum of Understanding with a defence contractor Roshel to sell the plant.
"We remain concerned with the negative spillover effects a permanent Brampton closure will have on other automotive assembly plants within the Stellantis chain, and elsewhere in the supply base. We will continue pressing the company to live up to its commitment to our members, consider ways to prevent the closure and sale, and position the plant for future automotive assembly work," said the Master Bargaining Committee in its latest update.
The union has not taken any further action to move toward a strike position. Unifor and Stellantis remain in conciliation, a process mandated under the Ontario Labour Relations Act.
Unifor has not scheduled any strike votes to date. If it heads in that direction, union members will be contacted with the date and location of the vote.
The current contract ended on September 20. All terms and conditions of the current contract remain in place.
