You might notice a vehicle equipped with specialized cameras roaming the streets of Windsor.
ENWIN Utilities is using artificial intelligence-assisted technology to inspect its infrastructure. The vehicle will travel through select areas of the city, taking photos of utility poles, overhead conductors, and pole-mounted equipment from the roads.
It's a pilot project with Neural D Inc. and is part of ENWIN's ongoing commitment to explore the use of innovative tools supporting the delivery of safe and reliable electricity to its customers. How well A.I. can support utility asset identification, condition assessment, and detection of defects will be evaluated throughout the pilot project.
"Utility pole inspections are an important part of maintaining a safe and reliable electrical system," said Director Marvio Vinhaes.
The pilot project is being conducted under a formal agreement to protect private information, data security, access controls, data retention, and secure disposal.
