The Windsor Regiment is celebrating 90 years in the community next month.
The regiment was formed on December 15, 1936 as one of six modern tank regiments across Canada.
"What makes the Windsor Regiment very unique is that it was raised as the first modern tank regiment in Canada," said Master Warrant Officer Matthew Smith.
Over 8,000 members have been a part of the regiment over the last 90 years. Past and current members will celebrate its anniversary with a Freedom of the City parade in downtown Windsor on October 24, 2026.
"We'll come down to city hall and basically the mayor states a proclamation that we are free to be within the city and basically its a support to the regiment throughout the event," said Smith.
On Monday, the regiment presented Windsor City Council with a vintage montage of the regiment and a camp flag that was historically used to mark their location in larger camps.
