Dilkens, Francis release latest campaign promises

Mayoral candidates Fred Francis and Drew Dilkens released additional pillars in their campaigns Thursday.

Francis released a four-part downtown revitalisation plan that includes initiatives to tackle storefront vacancy and expand affordable housing and treatment supports.

He says by the end of his four years, he'll also make sure there's a plan for a permanent Central Library.

"I see it as a necessary project. Every great city has a central library and I think the downtown neighbourhood is not benefiting from what other neighbourhoods in this city have: a beautiful library that is a common space for education, for meeting, for arts and culture," said Francis.

Francis says he will develop a downtown Community Improvement Plan, an office-to-residential conversion program and establish a pop-up lease program to support entrepreneurship.

Dilkens also release another pillar of his campaign Thursday with a focus on investing in the city's parks.

“Communities need public spaces, and I’m proud that during my time as Mayor, we’ve renewed, renovated, and expanded access to parks, arenas, pools, and community centres for families and seniors to use and cherish,” said Dilkens. “As demographics change, we need to continue to expand and invest in parks and outdoor amenities that inspire and support healthy, active, engaged living for residents.”

He says he'll create more trails, invest in a public spaces rehab program, and ensure plans like the Sandpoint Beach Master Plan, Peche Island rehab, and Ojibway National Park move forward.

There are nine other candidates running for mayor of Windsor including Benjamin Danyluk, Aaron Day, Dylon Graves, Tara Grayer, Nick Kolasky, Tristan Ty Morencie, Kat Pasquach, Patrick Sutherland, and Louis Vautopic.

The election is on October 26.
