The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested a man after a barricaded-suspect situation led to a shelter-in-place order in Essex.
Police announced on social media shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Thursday that people in the area of Patrick Crescent in Essex should shelter in place.
"Officers are responding to a disturbance involving a barricaded and potentially armed individual," read the post from the OPP. "All others are to avoid the area and follow any instructions provided by officers in the vicinity."
Residents in the area were asked to stay inside with doors and windows locked, and if outside, to find a secure location.
For those in the area who were driving, the OPP asked those people to go straight to their destination and not pick up any hitchhikers.
Police arrested a 62-year-old man, and added that minor injuries were reported.
The shelter-in-place was lifted by 10 p.m. Thursday.
