Chatfield Goal Lifts Spitfires to 5-4 OT Win

Jalen Chatfield needed 61 seconds additional playing time to score the winning goal as the Windsor Spitfires beat the North Bay Battalion 5-4 in overtime Saturday night at the WFCU Centre.

Jeremiah Addison and Aaron Luchuk each scored two goals in the game.  Julius Nattinen picked up three assists.

Both Addison and Luchuk picked up their first scores in the first period, with Addison striking first at 10:43 in the period.  Luchuk's first goal came just 18 seconds afterwards.  It was the sixth goal of the year for both Spits.  The Battalion came back in the period with two of their own, with Steve Harland getting North Bay on the board, and Brett Hargrave tying it up with just 13 seconds left in the first stanza.

Addison's second goal of the night would be the only one scored in the second period, scored on the power-play at 6:38 and giving Windsor a 3-2 lead.  The third period began with the Battalion knotting it at three-all on a goal from Daniil Vertiy, against his former teammates.  Luchuk would even things up once more at 5:34 into the third on an unassisted goal.  Windsor was on the power-play later in the period and North Bay's Brett McKenzie somehow got the puck into the net shorthanded to complete regulation with a 4-4 score.

Battalion goalie Mat Woroniuk allowed the overtime winner from Chatfield and took the loss.  Mario Culina stopped 25 out of 29 North Bay shots for Windsor.

The Spitfires welcome the Saginaw Spirit to the WFCU Centre on Thursday.  North Bay is in Sarnia Sunday afternoon.
