Greentree wins it for Spitfires in OT against Niagara

It was the captain of the Windsor Spitfires who played hero on Sunday.

They were in Niagara taking on the IceDogs and ended up winning 4-3 in overtime.

Neither team were able to score in the first period. The second period was very different as each scored two goals.

The first two came from Niagara as Ryan Roobroeck and Noah Van Vliet found the back of the net.

Tanner Winegard scored his first career OHL goal to cut the lead in half. His first goal came in his 74th game for the Spitfires. Assisting on the play were Ethan Garden and Ethan Martin.

Ethan Belchetz would tie the game with his 12th goal. Jack Nesbitt and Carson Woodall with the assists.

The third period saw Niagara grab the lead once again when Max Crete scored with just over 10 minutes to play.

However, Josef Eichler would force overtime as he would score his 2nd of the season. Ryan Abraham and Noah Morneau each with as assist.

Niagara took a penalty in the last minute of regulation, crossing over into overtime. It was on this powerplay when Laim Greentree scored his 29th goal to win the game. The assists on the play went to Anthony Cristoforo and Nesbitt.

With the win, Windsor improves its record to 29-7-2-1, while Niagara moves to 23-12-2-1.

The Spitfire's next game is on Friday, January 10, on the road against the London Knights.
