This year's Huron County Progressive Farm Safety Day was a huge success.
They had about 160 kids at this year's event; nearly double the total from last year.
Co-ordinator Brenda Chuter believes there is more awareness about safety on the farm and they also changed the venue this year and held the event at the Seaforth Agricultural Society facility.
Chuter says one of the most dangerous situations around farm equipment now is that it's much bigger and too often parents can't see their kids when they're around that equipment. She also points out that children often ride things like ATV's that are too big for them and don't wear the proper safety equipment. Another message they wanted to stress is that children like to help their fathers fix equipment but they have to be made aware of how to do it property, and what protective equipment they should be wearing while they're doing it.
She says youngsters should always wear protective eye covering before using a hammer.
