Organizers of the upcoming Fire Prevention Course say barn fires are a major concern as the loss of livestock, buildings and equipment can be devastating.
They note from 2008-2014, 1,163 barn fire incidents in Ontario led to $28.2 million in financial losses.
The course will touch on new technologies which are available to farmers, such as FLIR cameras and methane sensors, which are important as 40 per cent of barn fires are caused by faulty electrical systems.
Classes will be available on March 6th and the 21st at Grey Ag Services in Markdale.
OMAFRA's Jacqui Empson Laporte and John Van de Vegte will be on hand to explain how to identify electrical problems before they turn tragic.
The cost of the course is $10 and pre-registration is required.
