The Ontario Apple Growers say recent data from released by JRG Consulting Group shows the apple industry generates $634 million in economic activity every year as it supports over 5,100 jobs around the province.
The organization notes every dollar in output from Ontario's 230 commercial apple farmers generates $2.39 in economic activity.
Chair Charles Stevens points out Ontario is the biggest apple-producing province in the country.
He says all apple growers are proud to provide Ontarians with healthy, locally produced food.
The group also points out Ontario still is a net importer of 81 million kilograms of apples annually, so there are vast growth opportunities for new and established producers.
