Leamington's Heinz Arena is getting a name change.
Highbury Canco and the municipality are agreeing to a new seven-year $140,000 naming sponsorship deal.
"We hope that folks will look at this as a commitment that we have to the community," says Sam Diab, company president and co-owner hoping the arena name change will be seen positively in the town.
"It's part of the transformation, you know a new start with a new company," says Diab. "None of us will forget a hundred plus years of Heinz being in Leamington and we hope to keep the iconic [Heinz] smoke stake that's on our site."
The deal will also mean some upgrades at the Leamington Kinsmen Recreation Complex, including improved WI-FI, new TVs and an upgraded sound system in the weight room.
The Heinz signage above the arena entrance is expected to be changed over to the Highbury Canco name in mid-September for the fall hockey season. Centre ice will also have the Highbury Canco name.
Highbury Canco took over the former Heinz facility in Leamington after the company announced it was leaving after over operating for over 100 years.
