The Windsor-Detroit Tunnel will undergo some renovations in the near future.
The renovations will include the removal and replacement of the tunnel ceiling as well as electrical, communications, lighting and masonry work.
President of the Windsor Detroit Tunnel Neal Belitsky says these are routine renovations to maintain the structure.
"If you look at other tunnels throughout Canada and the United States after a certain point this is something that needs to be done," says Belitsky.
The first phase of the project will begin in May and should not cause any disruption for travellers.
The removal and replacement of the ceiling will cause the tunnel to be closed down five nights a week starting in mid-August. Belitsky says they do not have an exact time frame yet but will make sure travellers are informed before that takes place.
