With a lot of rain in the short-term forecast, the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority is reminding residents to be especially careful around ditches, streams, and rivers in the area.
The conservation authority says areas along the Sydenham River are expected to rise as the rain falls and the temperature climbs.
Meanwhile, the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) has a similar message.
A release from the LTVCA says the rainfall and the melting snow could even cause some area watercourses to spill over their banks. It also says while ice jams are not expected, ice that has formed on the water could create some blockages downstream.
Officials are not expecting a lot of flooding, but they will be keeping a close eye on how things develop over the next day or so, and will issue any further updates if they're required.
For now, parents are reminded to keep their kids away from area waterways and floodplain areas, especially because the water is cold and the currents could be especially strong.
