Cobras Competing In OMHA Finals

The Kent Teksavvy Cobras Bantam AE team is competing for a provincial championship this weekend.

They are in the OMHA finals, matching up against the Brampton 45s.

Head coach Jason Bright says the team showed good chemisty right from the beginning.

"They came together pretty early in August, they all got along, they all worked hard and they just have fun every chance they get," says Bright. "It's more than hockey to them -- they just like hanging out... they're super competitive and super driven."

Right from the beginning, the team set a goal of raising an OMHA banner, but Bright admits at that time they couldn't have predicted that the team would do as well as they have.

"Did we expect to get it? Maybe a little bit," says Bright, adding everyone on the team worked very hard to get to this point. "The boys really bought in right from the get-go -- they really worked their tails off, doing the extras outside of the rink."

The Cobras were undefeated during the regular season and went on to win 13 of their 16 playoff games en route to booking a spot in the finals.

Bright is hoping to see a good crowd come out and support the team.

"Any support that we can get from the community would be great," says Bright. "The boys are all very excited -- they're happy to be representing not only the Cobras and TekSavvy, but the community as a whole. Any support they could get, they would love it."

The Cobras will face the Brampton 45s for game 1 of the finals tonight at 5:30pm at the Thames Campus in Chatham.

Game 2 is at 2:30pm Sunday at the Tilbury and District Community Centre.
