Goodfellows volunteers hit the streets in Chatham

The Chatham Goodfellows "No Child Without A Christmas" campaign is winding down, but not before the final big fundraiser this weekend.

"Street sales is this Friday and Saturday," said Goodfellows Director Tim Mifflin. "You're going to see Goodfellows on the street corners with their red aprons. Give what you can, and we will appreciate whatever you can provide."

Mifflin says toys will be delivered on Monday, December 17, starting at 5:30 p.m. Food packing will get underway the next day.

"The final event of our campaign is Tuesday, at 8 a.m. in the morning at the Spirit and Life Centre, the former St. Joe's auditorium. We pack the food, and we will pack all those boxes in three hours, and start delivering at 11:30 a.m. It's pretty amazing."

"We're packing 1,420 food boxes, and I say that with a caveat knowing that there are emergencies that happen each and every day," said Mifflin. "I wouldn't be surprised if we will be perhaps, 20 more by this time next week when we are delivering."

Mifflin added that they never turn away anyone in need.

"There are events that happen, you know, if somebody has a house fire, and if they don't have much, we'll step in and we help every time. And that's why we say we quit taking names, but if there is something or someone in a crisis, we are always there to help," he said.
